The Freestyle Edge Sharpening System was developed to aid in sharpening Chisels and Plane Blades. It was designed to allow for quick setup and accurate sharpening angles. The system allows you to quickly come to your sharpening system and return to the angle that you previously sharpened too. It provides the speed of freehand sharpening with the accuracy of a jig.
The Sharpening Ring is the heart of the Freestyle Edge Sharpening System. It is the device that lets you easily hold any angle on a blade. This is done by simply placing your blade on the top surface of the ring and holding the ring and blade with a pinch grip. The top of the ring has a non-slip material that allows blades to easily hold to the ring without the need of excessive pressure. The ring will then spin on bearings as you run the blade along the sharpening surface to prevent marring your sharpening stones and to reduce friction. All Metal parts are 304 Stainless Steel to prevent corrosion.
If the Sharpening Ring is the heart, then the Angle Block would be the brains of the system. The Angle Block allow you to set any angle from 10 degrees to 50 degrees in 1 degree increments. This is done by inserting the provided key in the appropriate slot for the desired angle. The blade can them be slid to the angled face and attach to the magnets while getting the Sharpening Ring or Low Profile Sharpening Jig in place. The magnets are recessed to prevent the metal coming into contact with any blade. The Angle Block can also do 85 to 90 degrees, 55 degrees, 65 degrees, and 75 degrees by turning it in special ways.
The Low Profile Sharpening Jig is for those times when the Sharpening Ring can't quite do what you need. This Jig will come in clutch when you need to get to the shallow angles or steep angles where the ring will just run out of room. The minimum angle is dependent on the blade you are sharpening; however this Jig can go all the way to 90 degrees to help you sharpen scrapers. All metal parts are 304 Stainless Steel to prevent corrosion.
The Clamping Jig is there to lend a helping hand anytime a blade gets wider than it is comfortable to hold in the pinch grip. It can be used with the Sharpening Ring and the Low Profile Sharpening Jig. The Clamping Jig is primarily used for plane blades. It is placed on the Ring or Sharpening Jig prior to finding the angle, then pressed together and will hold your blade to the Jig you are using. You can then take it to the stones and not worry about it slipping. The two spring rods are 304 stainless steel to prevent corrosion.
We understand that this is an unconventional sharpening system for chisels and planes, but since we started developing the Freestyle Edge Sharpening System in early 2023, we have found it to be a highly effective way to sharpen our tools. If you are having sharpening troubles, we would encourage you to give this system a try as it has solved our sharpening woes. It is currently only available as the full system. In the future we may decide to sell partial systems. We have worked hard to develop this sharpening system to make it as user friendly as possible. Sharp tools are safe tool.
